Jamie Scherer, a senior at Whitmer High School in Toledo, has been named winner of the 27th Annual Congressional Arts Competition for the Ninth District. Congresswoman Kaptur will present Ms. Scherer with her prize in a ceremony on Sunday.
The national budget priorities should be economic growth and financial reform, Congresswoman Kaptur said on national radio. Appearing on the On Point program hosted by Tom Ashbrook, Congresswoman Kaptur noted that one county in the Ninth Congressional District, Ottawa County, is suffering from 17 percent unemployment. "So direct efforts to help people are a very high priority with me," she said.

Congresswoman Kaptur will announce a significant expansion of a federal food aid program that provides thousands of nutritious food packages every month to needy families and senior citizens in Northern Ohio.
“We continue to focus our
efforts on increasing the food security in our community,” said Kaptur,
who serves on the House Appropriations agriculture subcommittee. “The
U.S. Department of Agriculture and the state of Ohio are such strong
partners because they recognize the efficiency of our local program.”
